General
A free, open platform for studying two foundational yoga texts: the Hatha Yoga Pradipika and Patañjali’s Yoga Sūtras. Both texts are presented in three layers — Devanagari script, IAST transliteration, and English translation — alongside a Sanskrit glossary, a personal practice journal, and AI study companions. The site is built with reverence for the tradition and without ads or dark patterns.
Anyone drawn to the classical texts of yoga — whether you’re encountering them for the first time or returning after years of practice. The platform is designed for self-directed study, not instruction. It’s a place to read, reflect, and build a personal relationship with the source material.
The complete texts — all 389 verses of the Hatha Yoga Pradipika and all 196 sūtras of the Yoga Sūtras — are free to read, always. Creating a free account unlocks personal study tools like the glossary, journal, Sparkmarks, and AI companions. Paid tiers add deeper features: Aspirant includes Hero Images, text and term audio, and AI journal prompts; Teacher adds Voice Sparks, AI Sparks, Text AI Sparks, and more.
No. There are no ads on HYP Yoga, and there never will be.

Texts & Study
The complete Hatha Yoga Pradipika (4 chapters, 389 verses) and Patañjali’s Yoga Sūtras (4 Pādas, 196 sūtras). Each verse and sūtra is presented with the original Devanagari, IAST transliteration, and an English translation.
Highlighted Sanskrit terms on verse and sūtra pages. Tap one and a concise definition appears inline — no need to navigate away. Quick Terms require a free account.
A searchable collection of 172 Sanskrit terms with definitions and Devanagari script. Terms are linked throughout the texts, so you can look up unfamiliar words as you study. The glossary requires a free account.
Journal & Sparkmarks
A personal space for reflections linked to specific verses, sūtras, or glossary terms. When you compose an entry from a text page, the source passage is embedded as a blockquote. Entries support markdown, tags, and a public/private toggle. Journal entries are private by default — you choose when to share.
Emoji bookmarks. Tap the ✦ icon on any verse, sūtra, or glossary term to tag it with up to three emoji — use whatever system feels natural to you. Your sparked content is collected on a dedicated Sparkmarks page where you can filter by emoji or content type.
Cover images for journal entries. Upload a JPEG, PNG, or WebP image (up to 5MB) to set the visual tone for your reflection. Available to Aspirant and Teacher members.
Short (20-second) audio reflections you can record and attach to journal entries. Like Sparkmarks, each Voice Spark can be tagged with an emoji to capture the mood or energy of the moment. Teacher-tier members can also opt into AI transcription of their Voice Sparks.
Yes. Visit your export page to download selected entries as a formatted PDF or Markdown file. You can choose which text layers to include, and AI Sparks annotations are included if present.
AI Features
SwamiGPT and DharmaGPT — two AI study companions available from any verse, sūtra, or term page. SwamiGPT is scholarly and grounded in the classical commentary traditions. DharmaGPT is warm and practice-oriented, drawing on modern yoga teaching. Both stream responses inline without leaving the page. Free accounts get 10 messages per day; Aspirant and Teacher accounts have no limit.
Annotation-style reflections on your journal entries. When you add AI Sparks to an entry, the AI reads your writing and highlights phrases with color-coded notes — gold for Textual Connections to classical texts, purple for Insights, green for Deeper Connections, blue for Personal Connections to your other entries, and amber for Source references grounded in specific scholarship. AI Sparks can be saved and included in journal exports. Available to Teacher members.
A feature on verse, sūtra, and term pages that creates 2–3 personalized reflection prompts based on the text you’re studying and your journal history. Tap a prompt card to begin composing. Available to Aspirant and Teacher members.
A Teacher-only feature that finds threads between the text you’re studying and the AI Sparks annotations saved across your journal — surfacing connections, a synthesis, and a new reflection prompt.
Privacy & Data
Only you, unless you choose to make them public. Entries are private by default. Even public entries are only visible to logged-in practitioners.
Yes. You can block other practitioners from their profile page. Blocking is bidirectional — they won’t see your entries and you won’t see theirs.

Yes. Practitioners with a free account or above can choose from 15 typefaces — each selected for proven legibility and accessibility, including Atkinson Hyperlegible (designed by the Braille Institute) and Lexend (designed for reading fluency). Set a global preference in your settings, or use the per-page font selector (the “Aa” button) on verse, sūtra, and term pages.
